Wat Phun!
It's about an hour north of Bangkok on the train and, for the 4 of us, it cost a whopping 80 baht (A little under 2GBP). Not each, but in total!
Ayutthaya used to be the capital of what is now Thailand, hence the wealth that allowed all of the temples to be built, many of them were covered in gilt. It was, of course, sacked by the invading Burmese, hence the ruins.
There are literally dozens of ruined temples to explore. Some are in ruins and others in a not too bad state, whilst still others are still standing but are on their last legs. It is also has a nice chilled out atmosphere and well worth a visit.
